February 2026 Tax Deadlines: A Guide for Phoenix & Mesa Businesses

February 2026 Tax Deadlines: Your Guide for Phoenix & Mesa Businesses

For business owners in Arizona, the start of the year is less about resolutions and more about reporting. February, in particular, is packed with critical deadlines for payroll forms, information returns, and tax deposits related to the 2025 tax year. Missing these dates can lead to significant penalties, so staying organized is key. This guide breaks down what you need to know.

The Big Push: February 2, 2026 Deadlines

The beginning of the month is the most intense period for filing. Several crucial forms are due to both recipients and government agencies.

W-2s and 1099-NECs

This is the primary deadline for getting year-end wage and payment information into the right hands.

  • Form W-2: You must provide 2025 W-2 forms to all employees. Copy A, along with Form W-3, must also be filed with the Social Security Administration.
  • Form 1099-NEC: If your business paid $600 or more for services from an independent contractor, you must issue them a Form 1099-NEC. These must also be filed with the IRS by this date. Our firm manages the preparation of these forms in the required scannable format, ensuring you meet all IRS specifications.

Other Information Returns (Due to Recipients)

While the IRS filing deadline for some of these is later, you must provide the following forms to recipients by February 2:

  • Form 1098: Mortgage Interest Statement
  • Other Forms 1099: For reporting income like rent, royalties, dividends, and prizes.
  • Form W-2G: For reporting gambling winnings.

Payroll and Unemployment Tax Filings

Several quarterly and annual payroll forms have their initial deadline on this day.

  • Form 940 (FUTA): File your annual Federal Unemployment Tax Act return for 2025.
  • Form 941: File your fourth-quarter 2025 return for Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income tax.
  • Form 943: Farm employers must file to report 2025 Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income tax.
  • Form 945: File this to report income tax withheld in 2025 on nonpayroll items, like pensions or gambling winnings.

The Extension: February 10 Deadline for Timely Depositors

Did you deposit all of your taxes for a specific form on time and in full? The IRS gives you a little breathing room. If you met your deposit obligations, the filing deadline for Forms 940, 941, 943, 944, and 945 is extended to February 10.

Mid-Month Checkpoints: February 17 Deadlines

A few more deadlines arrive mid-month that you'll want to have on your radar.

  • Information Statements: Forms 1099-B (Broker Transactions), 1099-S (Real Estate Proceeds), and certain 1099-MISC forms are due to recipients.
  • Monthly Deposits: If you follow the monthly deposit rule, your deposit for January 2026 taxes (Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income tax) is due.
  • Withholding Changes: If an employee claimed an exemption from withholding in 2025 but hasn't submitted a new W-4 for 2026, you must begin withholding tax from their pay.

Important Reminders for Business Owners

Weekends, Holidays, and Disasters

If a due date ever lands on a weekend or legal holiday, the deadline automatically shifts to the next business day. Furthermore, the IRS often provides filing extensions for taxpayers in federally declared disaster areas. You can find up-to-date information on the official sites:
