Critical Individual Tax Deadlines for March 2026

As we enter the final stretch of the tax season here in Phoenix and Mesa, March serves as the "two-minute warning" before the April filing deadline. While April 15 gets all the attention, missing specific milestones this month can complicate your return or limit our ability to help you strategically.

March 10: Tip Reporting Deadline

For our clients working in the service industry who received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report these to your employer by March 10. You can utilize IRS Form 4070 or a signed statement detailing your name, address, SSN, employer information, and the total tips received for the period.

Why does this matter? Your employer uses this report to withhold the necessary FICA and income taxes from your wages. If your regular wages aren't sufficient to cover the withholding, the uncollected amount will appear in box 8 of your W-2, resulting in a tax bill when you file your annual return.

Do not wait until you have every single receipt. Many clients delay booking because they are missing one document. This is a mistake. Bring what you have; we will simply create a "homework list" for the missing items. It is far better to get the process started now.

A Note on Extensions

Even if you anticipate needing an extension, we must prepare a preliminary return to estimate your liability. Remember, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. To avoid unnecessary interest and penalties, let us help you calculate and pay any tax due by April, even if the paperwork follows later.

Legal Holidays and Disaster Relief

Per standard IRS rules, if a due date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day. Additionally, if you are in a federally declared disaster area, deadlines may shift.
